Unlike a USB camera, which must be located near a PC, the network camera has its own built in web server that lets you connect it directly to a network. That means you can send images and control the camera from a distance, without having to connect the camera to a PC.

UPnP support

The cameras support UPnP (Universal Plug and Play)*1 for easy network setting when combined with an UPnP-compatible router. With the included software, the setup wizard guides you through the procedure and completes the network setup automatically*2. It eliminates complicated procedures and prevents possible setting errors.

Image data can be stored without a network connection simply by inserting an SD Memory Card into the camera. In the HCM5 series, SD Memory Cards can be swapped even without a PC, making it possible to use a single camera unit as a monitoring device in places where a power source is available, but installation of network or other cables is problematic.

In accordance with preset settings*1, the camera will automatically transfer images and a data log by e-mail*2 to an e-mail address or by FTP to a server. This allows you to check images only
when necessary, and also prevents you from forgetting to check them.

*1 Preset settings can include timer, alarm, and motion detection. With JPEG connection only. *2-1 PDP before SMTP authentication and SMTP authentication (PLAIN and LOGIN) are supported. *2-2 The HCM5 series and BL-C111/C131 also support SMTP authentication (CRAM-MD5). This is not supported by other models.
